Legalizations

All documents submitted in the administrative and academic procedures of legalization of foreign documents must be official and issued by the competent authorities to do so, according to the law of the country concerned. The procedures vary by country of origin of the studies or qualifications:

1.) Documents issued in Member States of the European Union or signatory to the Agreement on the European Economic Area does not require any kind of legalization for documents issued in these countries. These countries are: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, and Sweden. Switzerland, too, by bilateral agreement with the EU.

2.) Documents issued in countries that have signed the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961: It is sufficient only legalization or apostille "issued by the competent authorities of the country. 3.) Documents issued in countries that have signed the "Andrés Bello Convention "(Art. 2. PO 6. Resolution 006/98 adopted by the Nineteenth Meeting of Ministers of Education of the Andrés Bello). Signatory countries, except also signed the Hague Convention are: Bolivia, Cuba, Chile, Paraguay and Peru.

The documents must be authenticated through diplomatic channels and must be submitted:

  • The Ministry of Education, the country of origin, certificates of studies, and relevant ministry for birth and nationality
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal to the legalization of previous recognition
  • The diplomatic mission or consulate of Spain in that country, for the recognition of this legalization


4.) Documents issued in other countries: Documents must be legalized by diplomatic means, and it must be submitted:

  • The Ministry of Education, the country of origin, certificates of studies, and relevant ministry for birth and nationality
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal to the legalization of previous recognition
  • The diplomatic mission or consulate of Spain in that country, for the recognition of the legalization
  • The Legalisation Department of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recognize the signature of the Spanish diplomatic or consular representation
  • The documents issued by diplomatic or consular authorities of other countries in Spain must be legalized by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
